Carey Gruber took the podium to lead the Dutch Canadian Choir of Calgary as of August, 2016. At that time she had already been a choral conductor of 28 years. She has held another current position, the Music and Artistic Director of the 70-voice Big Rock Singers adult community choir, since 2003. Before that she was Choir Director at Lutheran Church of the Cross, All Saints Lutheran Church and Covenant Christian Reformed Church - all in Calgary.

The Dutch Canadian Choir of Calgary performed as guests of the Big Rock Singers at their Christmas concert in Okotoks in 2008. Carey said "Perhaps it is my Dutch heritage... or the connection the Dutch Canadian Choir has had to the Big Rock Singers... or my respect and admiration for your choir - but most likely, it is a combination of these things that has led to this wonderful outcome - I am thrilled to be your new Director!"

Carey has also been a private music teacher for the past 30 years. She owned/operated a music school of 300 students (Okotoks Community School of Music) from 1993 to 2002 and currently teaches piano and voice in her private studio.

Carey is passionate about music, especially choral music! She believes that voices joining together in song can bring unparalleled joy to life and pave the way towards creating friendship bonds that go far beyond rehearsals and performances. The community choir context is a wonderful opportunity to bring all ages together, and to see singers learn and grow musically in a warm and welcoming environment!

Carey brings her love for choral music and her commitment to the wonderful people who sing and is excited to share her knowledge, skills and conducting experience with a new (to her) choir!
